Park Update

Phase I of construction at East Fallowfield Community Park is almost complete. The tot lot is installed and the walking trails are about to be paved. Most of the grading has been completed and the necessary stormwater management features have been installed.  There were some minor setbacks, as with any project, but they have been addressed. Those involved in the project are very satisfied with the progress and everyone is eagerly awaiting completion of construction. Plans are in the works for a community celebration event at the Park after it is completed. Construction of Phase I should be completed by mid-summer.

The Park & Recreation Commission has established a wonderful mowed meadow walking trail through the meadow along Strasburg Road. It has been in place for over a month and has become a very popular and well used feature of the Park. The Park & Recreation Commission has also requested that the Township manage this land area along Strasburg Road as a meadow, rather than as a mowed lawn. This means the entire meadow will be mowed only a few times per year rather than every 10 days to 2 weeks. This will encourage better wildlife habitat for song birds and other small mammals. And it will save the Township staff time and equipment and fuel costs by reducing the mowing frequency. As the vegetation will be growing taller between mowings, when it is cut, it will be hayed and removed. The mowed walking trail will be mowed frequently to maintain it as a comfortable walking environment for residents.

More projects are in the works at the Park - stay tuned for updates and information on the upcoming celebration event !!! If you would like to get involved, please see the "calendar" here on the Township web page for dates and times of Park & Recreation Commission meetings.
